Person killed in fatal car accident

A person has died and two others were injured in a car accident in northern Tasmania this afternoon.

Police say two cars collided at 2:30pm AEDT on the West Tamar Highway, north of Beaconsfield.

They say two people suffered serious injuries and are being treated in the Launceston General Hospital.

It is the first road death in Tasmania for the Christmas-New Year period.
